Do What I Gotta Do

I don’t know about you but I know about me
I’m tired of working eighty hour weeks
I’m tired of being tired all the time
I’m tired of always just scraping by
I’ve maxed out all my credit cards
I kill myself at three different jobs
I’m not depressed but I think about death
As sweet relief from all this work and debt
So I just wanted to know
Everything that I do
The sweat, the stress, the pain in my chest
I'll do what I gotta do
I'll do what I gotta do
And darling…….it’s all for you
I work like a dog and I live like a hog
And nobody knows my name
Life out on the road feels a lot like hell
But I guess that’s the nature of the game
I was told that if I break my back
It would earn me a day in the sun
But the years go by and my backs just fine
And I still don't know how to have fun
You’re the only one who knows the trouble I’ve seen
And you’re the only thing that matters to me
So slide your dancing slippers on
While you and me and the night are young
So I just wanted to know
Everything that I do
The sweat, the stress, the pain in my chest
I'll do what I gotta do
I'll do what I gotta do
And darling…….it’s all for you

Organized Shame

These are the reasons I drink and take my pills
Humans are a virus and there is no cure
By the grace of god the manure will hit the fan
But I’ll be dead and I’ll be gone and I won’t really give a damn
Noone gives a second thought to your stupid dream
You’re just another cog in the mans big machine
So get a good job and pay all of your bills
And just because you can don’t crap out forty kids
Give me back my American Dream
Give my parents back their organized shame
Give my unborn children the future they deserve
And Give every single person what their life is really worth
Trash Trash Trash is all I see around
The earth is dying slowly I wish the devil would burn it down
Cash cash cash to buy more trash
I guess god didn’t build the earth to last
World War three is on its way on a red bicycle on a windy day
I’m selling tickets to the end of time
If you sell me your soul you’re next in line
And give me back my Democracy
Give my love to my country
Give the people back their patriotic pride
Give me liberty and freedom until the day I die
I get so tired of people every day
telling me I need their savior to wash my sins away
But I didn’t kill Lisa Macpherson for lord xenu
And I’ve never touched a little boy like the catholic priests all do
And I’ve never crashed a plane in the name of my god
I’ve never bombed a marathon or started a jihad
So don’t feed me this crock about you’re all so plain and pure
If religion does break even it will be a miracle
Give me back my wasted youth
Give me a lover that will say I do
Give us all a reason to keep on keepin on
Give thanks to the heavens I'm not the one in charge

Me I don't mean, anything to anyone
And I can write an anthem without a needle in my arm
Giving up everything is a lot easier to do
When all you have left is nothing left to lose
Listen to my words, listen to my pain,
I'm not some Brooklyn hipster with nothing real to say
I've lived in my own head more than you will ever know
Damned if I’m with people and damned if I’m alone
Whatever you are be a good one
You don't have to be a star
Wherever the wind may take you
be better than you are
Well it takes one to know one and I know that I’m not alright
It’s not a birthday party if it happens every single night
I've been drinking so much I would put hemingway to shame
But my nobel novel hasn't made it past the first page
I drink, drink, drink but the words just keep spinning around
And The chapter they leave out is that poets usually drown
In a pool of their own sorrow or a ditch by the side of road
Not a dollar to their name and a notebook full of words
Do what you love And love what you do
We're all six feet from the cold hard truth
That Life is a ride and we're already dead
That Earth is heaven and there is no hell
That this is it this is as good as it gets
It does not get any better than this
Whatever you are be a good one
You don't have to be a star
Wherever the wind may take you
be better than you are

I drink my beer lukewarm like the English do
And I milk the cows every morn before I go to school
I go to sleep on a covered ash bed, it keeps me strong and straight
I go to church when I can’t go to sleep, its always been that way
What has been will be again, has a life has an end
There is nothing new under the sun
I take a bath once a month even if I don’t need one
I make maple syrup from the sap of trees just like father told me
I plow the fields on the family farm, eat potatoes off the ground
I keep quiet at the dinner table, keep opinions to myself
What has been will be again, has a life has an end
There is nothing new under the sun
I met a girl in town today at the main street general store
She made me laugh and I made her cry but we made up in the dark
We fell in love behind two horses on a slay in the snow
We got married in an open field with everyone we know
What has been will be again, has a life has an end
There is nothing new under the sun
What has been will be again, has a life has an end
There is nothing new under the sun

I’d take a bullet for you
I’d bury a body in the sand
I’d bust down the gates of Hell
I’d kill the devil with my own two hands
Because the bond that holds us together
Is like the magic in fairytale
You can't see it but at the bottom of your heart
somehow you know its there
So you go the right way brothers
And I will go the left
We can meet at the end of the line
I think thats for the best
Cause Lovers may have each other
And Friends change with the weather
Strangers don't even bother
But brothers are thicker than water
We can sit in the same room
And never say a word
Silence is just as comfortable
As singing like two old byrds
The three of us don’t need to cut
Our hands to be bound by blood
The same last name
Is a money back guarantee
Michael you were never an Angel
But you were born with a heart of gold
You never fail to make me laugh
When I’m feeling down and low
And Benjamin I'll never forget
The songs you wrote
Or the songs you played
In my mind you’ll always be a star
